107 10:51 5:29.30 1:49.29 7-2 I have coached 11 years now at Dakota Ridge High School and this season may be the most memorable for its incredible stress and challenges I never thought I would ever face. This week in particular was something I won't soon forget and will be processing for weeks and maybe years to come. We will see. I want to talk about a few performances this week that really stood out. Context is everything with me and these performances were full of context. 1:49.29 Let me begin with a redemptive race that was a year in the making. Last season, in the rain, we had a horrible drop of the baton in the league championship Sprint Medley. The year prior was a disaster as well. Putting all that aside, Carina Wilkerson, Genny Cruz, Olivia Landers and Cayli Hume put together a school record  800 Sprint Medley in 1:49.29 and it will give some seniors a chance to end their careers on the Jeffco track...during the state championship. 5:29.30 Monday at Val...

Weekend update....

PRACTICE @ 2-4pm @ Dakota Ridge short workout followed by a fun game.  Mother Nature is upset. Why could this be? A) She just can't stand Track and Field right now because Father Time flat out can not remember to put the toilet seat down AND because he just won't get around to painting the den.... Of which his excuse for... is that he is "BUSY" with a 9 hour track meet. B) Somewhere in Colorado is that one bride... who just HAD to have that outdoor wedding in the spring. Because and I quote "All the trees are in bloom and really pretty in the sun, and the day just won't be the same if we have it inside honey bunches...not mention that we don't quite fit in the church with 457 guests coming" C) The 2016 Presidential Election..."These are my choices?" She says eyebrows raised...Tornado here, flood there, Snow/ Rain mix over here...see how you like those choices Merica. D) Chihuahuas. Here is the deal.... WE ARE NOT DOING...

Staying Happy in Track and Field....and Life

Staying Happy in Track and Field....and Life Dakota Track, For those of you who run Cross Country and attended our team camp last summer, you saw a bit of how I am evolving as a coach. I have become a TED talk nerd. This is thanks in large part to becoming a school counselor. Which now that I am getting my feet wet at Summit Ridge a couple days a week, my passion for seeing students, and people in general achieve within their own context is enormous.  My hope is that once every few weeks at random (when I have the time) I will share something from outside Track and Field that we can apply to Track and Field. Of course, I also figure that these musings of mine will apply to the larger context called life. Read and watch at your leisure.  To begin I simply want to cover being happy, and how that pertains to my vision for our program. I want too borrow from the late Sam Berns to make a few points on my philosophy and how we all can have a happy season. If you hav...
