First Half of the Season 2017...

First half season highlights
....upcoming meets
...working with the end in mind...

As we return from Spring Break...the real season is about to swing into full gear. If you missed training during break for whatever reason...I won't sugar coat it...it's going to be tough the next few weeks as we begin to put everything together. Rest is good, but when you are training as we do in Track and Field with the end in mind, interruptions in training effort can ruin what was once a promising season. We certainly hope you have stayed fit enough to keep going on what has been a fabulous start to the season. No matter where you are at having trained during break or not, never give up and fight to be your best every chance you get.

We are very proud of the effort so many of you have given thus far. It has been exciting to see some new faces and the enthusiasm for the sport has brought your coaching staff great joy thus far. Below are some athletes whose season is off to a nice start. I have highlighted a few names and something to keep in mind here...even though you may not have been highlighted here, this does not mean you are not doing well through the first half of the season. I simply cannot write a blurb about everyone. Trust me when I say that we as coaches are truly very excited about all of you and are very proud of your effort thus far.

Some highlights from our opening month....

Ladies first...

Daphne Stoinski.... In her first ever 1600m track race she ran 9:08 after some training and confidence building, Daphne went out and ran 8:44 in her next effort. Her spring break training session on the track went fantastic and I see more personal bests in the next month for her.

Zoe Plechaty  ...It has really started to click for Zoe.  Running with us for Track for the first time as sophomore, Zoe has posted a 13:58 3200m performance and a 6:31 1600m thus far. She has been working very hard and running very competitively of late and I see her dropping both those PR's considerably over the next month.

Sydney Hoffman... Crushed her heat of the 100m at Broomfield in 13.68 in her first ever Track race. While she does have a lacrosse commitment, she will be a major part of the second half push to qualify some relays into the state meet.

Micaela Mossbrucker.... We don't have a ton of freshman girls this year like we do the boys, but what we may not have in quantity we have made up for in quality. Mossbrucker has shown already she possess the ability to become one our all-time great Track and Field athletes. Her great attitude and competitive fire along with her talent should make for a very fun four years here. She will also be a major part of the upcoming second half of season.

Kallie Hayes... Showing flashes of athleticism and heart thus far, her excitement to see what she can accomplish this season is exciting. We will be keeping a fun watch on how she develops as a Track and Field athlete in the second half of the year.

Maya Nefs.. 27.11 in the 200m was good for an All Time number 4 performance in school history on March 15th. She also ran 13.11 in the 100m that night. She will be full time with us once she has sat out the required number of meets for her transfer. What will be fun is watching her potentially re-write the school record book from 100-400m and maybe even be the closer on some state qualifying relay teams. Should be exciting to see what she can accomplish down the stretch.

Michelle Renner...  opened with a debut 1600m run of 5:21 at Broomfield and followed that with a 1600m victory at the Lyons meet in another personal best of 5:20.04. She sits 13th in the 5A 1600m rankings early on in the year here and is a mere 3 seconds from being ranked in the top 5. The second half of the year will be tremendously fun as Michelle attempts State qualification in the 1600m and 3200m.

Boys...

Freshman class... We have never had a more impactful set of freshman then what we have right now. All across the spectrum of Track and Field we have tremendous young kids who are the building block of a successful team in the coming years. First things first...coming up April 10th they will have a chance to win the Freshman Championships meet at Jeffco Stadium. Should be a very fun night as we attempt to win the meet as a team.

Dimy Dobrev.... Newcomers to Track and Field almost always happen as seniors who come out and make a name for themselves for a couple months before they go off to college. In Dimy's case he may have made it out for the team in time to certainly do some serious damage to our school record book. With undeniable athletic talent Dimy is already having a major impact on the fortunes of our team. Great debut performances in the Long Jump and 300H are the tip of iceberg for this budding talent. With some hard work and preparation in the coming weeks, Dimy has an outside shot to make a State qualifying mark in the 300H and help us score some important team points in the League Championship.

Josh Shaver...  Josh Shaver has returned. Absent for 2016, Josh returned for his senior year this season and began with a stunning 5:34 personal best in the 1600m. He will look to finish his career in the sub 5:20 range over the second half of the season.

Mark Testa...  One of the best and greatest stories in Dakota Ridge history. Mark debuted in an incredible 4:44 1600m and 10:16 3200m... By calculations He has an outside chance of making it to State in the 3200m. If he was able to run over the break and hold his fitness, a few weeks of sharpening the sword might do the trick.

Austin Vancil... Similar to Mark, Austin's week in Costa Rica will tell the tale...come back fit and ready to rock, he not only should make state in the 3200m but might be able to begin his reign near the top of the State's best distance runners. 9:53 3200m and 4:37 1600m debuts this season bode well for of the sports future star.

Nick Probst and Jack Pool... Watching them work and work to achieve their early season personal bests in Shot and Disc has been one of the joys of my coaching career. Nick will finish his career having been one of the hardest working leaders we have had here at Dakota Ridge. He deserves a ton of praise for what he has been able to accomplish already and it will be fun to watch the final stretch of competitions for a quality young man. He will pass the torch of leading our throwers to Jack Pool who in his own right has been weaving together a phenomenal story of success in the sport. As we go the rest of the season, get over to throws and watch our kids compete, we have an incredible group of student -athletes pursuing their best.

UPCOMING MEETS.....

April 6th...JV Open Meet @ Jeffco Stadium

For many of you you it will be another chance to compete for personal bests and do whatever events you might be interested in. We should have a bus there but not back and the list of who will be in this meet should be out by Sunday night April 2nd.

April 7th Littleton Championships @ Littleton Public Schools Stadium

This is our first chance to get the whole team together and we plan on doing it. We have already been doing entries and getting ready for this meet. Every year this is one of our most fun nights of the season. Please plan on being there and competing in what we have already set up. That info will also be posted by Sunday night this weekend. This meet will be our debut of relays and beginning a process of putting together what will be our best Relays for League at the end of the year.

April 10th Freshman Championships @ Jeffco Stadium

This should be fun. As I said above,  our boys squad of Freshman will make an attempt to win the Freshman championships. Pomona brings a very strong team to the competition so it won't be easy by any stretch of the imagination.

April 13th R2J Invite...@ Loveland High School Track

We will miss some school for this one so please plan ahead. We will take a bus up for the day and compete in a fabulous meet with some great schools that have enrollments at or very near us. We get 6 entries on the Track and 3 for field events. In order to be eligible to go you will need strong academic standing. If you are struggling with school there is a real chance we will opt for you not to miss class. We will have more info on this meet on April 9th.

...Working with the end in mind...

No matter what happened through the opening half of the season there is still time to create some great athletic memories during the second half. Keep working with the end of April and beginning of May in mind. Commit to achieving your best in practice and in meets for the next 6 weeks and see what happens. For our Seniors, please Leave a Legacy of excellence and teach our underclassmen what it means to work hard and compete for every great memory, every great personal best. Be the building blocks of the future and help create a culture of high quality effort and passion for Track and Field.

See everyone on Monday!!
