March 14th to March 18th Update.....

First off...Please pardon our getting things going here in the early part of the season. We are working out kinks in the system and getting kids used to communicating with us on their availability in meets. So we missed blog posts on these first 2 because of having to make last minute changes and not want ing to confuse kids in the early going. Its a very difficult process to manage the kids and all the other activities they do in life. Please bear with us as we go here. Kind emails and thoughtful questions are fantastic and if you are wondering about things please email so we can get things worked out with you. 

Great job in the last couple meets to ALL our student athletes. Things are looking fun this year already. Great Great efforts thus far.

Coming up...We will post this weekends meet entries Thursday night after 8pm when they are finalized for Saturday. In addition....by Saturday night we will post who is going to run in the Open meet at Jeffco on Tuesday March 20th next week. 

How meets work...most meets do NOT have a definitive time schedule. Most will simple go in order one event at a time until it is done. Here is a typical Jeffco Meet Schedule with My own times added in for good measure....They do not officially work on the time schedule listed. They simply just keep rolling through the order going sometimes as fast as they can and in some cases even combining events like they did tonight. Here is a typical Jeffco schedule for meets starting at 3:30pm....Keep in mind they may run this faster sometimes...and sometimes slower...it really just depends on entry numbers and how fast the workers are those nights. Typical Saturday meets follow different schedules and I will do about posting them as we go. Sorry for not having it this week.

Live a Story...Leave a Legacy: The opening chapters... It would seem the appropriate time for me to finally get some thoughts out on the blog. Having been through team camp, August and now a couple of meets our seasons story lines have become far clearer than they were when I last sat down and attempted to write. I've always been into the stories that our Cross Country seasons create for both the program (plot driven) and for the individual student athletes that drive it (character driven). It often makes for the perfect storm of the characters (you all) reacting to events of the season and changing along the way. Track and Field Season Review....

2017 Track and Field Season Wrap up and future thoughts... At Graduation on Friday we will see one of the most enigmatic classes in the history of Dakota Ridge leave us. They will be missed for their varied stories, personalities and talent. Enigmatic is the proper word here. It's difficult to express their value to us as they are all so beloved by our coaching staff as individuals and personalities. More then once we had tears on Saturday as coaches. For Clark, Tvrdik, Stenbeck and Hitzges, this class has a special place in our heart for how wonderful they are as a group and individually. As group they were also filled with bewildering bad luck and limiting factors that relatively to other classes led us to a lot of might-have-been feelings. For me personally, I have said it many times, this class has made me a better coach in many ways. Process, Outcomes, State Info, Banquet Info

The dust...rather...the snow finally settled and melted on the regular season last night. As a few of our athletes made one last effort to gain State Championship Qualifying marks, one of the highlights of the season happened off the track and field and in the stands. Matt Heitmann, Carisa Wilkerson long finished competing for the day and the essentially the year...stayed to watch their teammates and hang with the coaches while we watched Chloe Piegat, Izzy Camann and Sophie Berry compete. Tremendous student-athletes, the not so simple effort of taking the time for others was a particularly great leadership note to end the season on.   The Process and Choices.  I was reminded last night how vitally important to our success as a program, is the focus we put on the process and the choices we make. Over and over again this year when we struggled in our program it was the focus on the process that had been lost or choices were made that hindered both our process and performance. C
