March 19-24 Update as of Sunday Night...

 Practice is at 3:15pm Monday at Dakota Ridge...PLEASE take note of the following...

 We have an OPEN meet on Tuesday at Jeffco, It is a freebie meet to get you all competing a little bit. A bunch of you will be going there this week. We will have that list for you tomorrow at practice. Please discuss with your event coaches what you will be doing on Tuesday at that meet. There is a bus at 1:50pm for those going to the Open meet on Tuesday.

For most Varsity Athletes...you will have normal practice at Bear Creek at 4:45pm on Tuesday. Most Varsity athletes will compete Thursday or Saturday this week based on your needs for Spring Break.

I will post a more comprehensive entry list for the meets this week by Monday night. We need to talk on Monday as coaches and team to iron out all our kinks this week. There are a lot of kinks.

We HAVE to have you communicate with us your needs in terms of scheduling for this weeks meets AND for Spring Break. 

Grand Junction Update: I will have a list of who is going to that meet up tomorrow night once I confer with our staff and our kids. Once I have a few conversations about travel arrangements and various other issues I can get that out for everyone to plan.

Live a Story...Leave a Legacy: The opening chapters... It would seem the appropriate time for me to finally get some thoughts out on the blog. Having been through team camp, August and now a couple of meets our seasons story lines have become far clearer than they were when I last sat down and attempted to write. I've always been into the stories that our Cross Country seasons create for both the program (plot driven) and for the individual student athletes that drive it (character driven). It often makes for the perfect storm of the characters (you all) reacting to events of the season and changing along the way. Process, Outcomes, State Info, Banquet Info

The dust...rather...the snow finally settled and melted on the regular season last night. As a few of our athletes made one last effort to gain State Championship Qualifying marks, one of the highlights of the season happened off the track and field and in the stands. Matt Heitmann, Carisa Wilkerson long finished competing for the day and the essentially the year...stayed to watch their teammates and hang with the coaches while we watched Chloe Piegat, Izzy Camann and Sophie Berry compete. Tremendous student-athletes, the not so simple effort of taking the time for others was a particularly great leadership note to end the season on.   The Process and Choices.  I was reminded last night how vitally important to our success as a program, is the focus we put on the process and the choices we make. Over and over again this year when we struggled in our program it was the focus on the process that had been lost or choices were made that hindered both our process and performance. C

Track and Field Season Review....

2017 Track and Field Season Wrap up and future thoughts... At Graduation on Friday we will see one of the most enigmatic classes in the history of Dakota Ridge leave us. They will be missed for their varied stories, personalities and talent. Enigmatic is the proper word here. It's difficult to express their value to us as they are all so beloved by our coaching staff as individuals and personalities. More then once we had tears on Saturday as coaches. For Clark, Tvrdik, Stenbeck and Hitzges, this class has a special place in our heart for how wonderful they are as a group and individually. As group they were also filled with bewildering bad luck and limiting factors that relatively to other classes led us to a lot of might-have-been feelings. For me personally, I have said it many times, this class has made me a better coach in many ways.
