Spring Break Early Season Review

Spring Break Early Season Review

Off to a really great start to our season this year...finishing out March with a top notch effort in Grand Junction from those who went. As a team we are improving on our performances week after week and its been exciting to see kids getting to see the fruits of the hard work over the off season. Here is quick list of some highlights from the start of the year....

Kyle Scofield became the 8th fastest 200m performer in Dakota Ridge History with a 23.72 at the Grand Junction meet this weekend. In addition Kyle ran a 11.56 100m for  a tie at #6 on the All-Time Dakota Ridge list in the 100m. A true revelation for us in Track and Field Kyle scored a ton of points for our team with some top 5 finishes in the meet on Saturday. We are so excited to have him here with us. Already making waves in the early going...

Izaak McWilliams....and friends Matt Heitmann and Kyle Cannon and Hunter Cosnter have been using all there early opportunity to launch discs and shots. Izaak had a massive PR Saturday in Grand Junction with a 120 foot throw which puts him #8 All-Time in Dakota Ridge History. Our throwers are improving  week after week so far this season and its been really fun to see the improvements.

Carisa Wilkerson had a 18.76 100H on Saturday which put her at #6 all-time in Dakota Ridge History.  Her confidence is building and she is going to find herself much higher on the list very soon.

Chloe Piegat ran a 27.37 in her first ever 200m in our uniform at the Columbine Invite March 10th, putting her already 9th all-time in Dakota Ridge History. Certainly she will be chasing the school record the rest of the year. She broke 13 for 100m this weekend with a 12.99 and also bettered her 200m time with a 27.06 putting her #3 All time at Dakota Ridge. In addition, she has picked up the Pole Vault I believe and that will be something to watch as we go this season. She is a true track and field athlete and we are excited to see what she can do with career.

Girls 4x100m....Our ladies team is going to have a nice 4x100m team when its all said and done. A nice early season 51 point race is only a glimmer of what could be a very fun state qualifying chase this year.

Eli Harding became the #5 Dakota Ridge All-time 300m Hurdler with a PR of 46.82 at The Coyote Warrior Invite March 17th. Eli has the makings of a 43.something race this year, We will see if he can get there in the coming weeks.

Skylar Lodice had a huge personal best 1600m at Broomfield March 24th. Her 5:26.62 puts her at #10 all time in Dakota Ridge History and she most certainly will climb higher on that list this year.

Mark Testa posted the #8 Dakota Ridge All-Time 3200m with a 9:56.23 on Saturday at Broomfield. Mark is going to go much faster this year and end up higher on the list but for now, a much deserved PR and a great start to his year.

Dimy Dobrev has kept up his solid work in all his events. He set a PR in the 300H Saturday in Grand Junction coming across in 42.11 and is till currently our #2 all time 300 hurdler. He will look to shave about 2 seconds off in the coming weeks and hopefully become #1 in the event in Dakota history.

Distance Boys....Huge races by a bunch of guys all through March. I mentioned Mark Testa above, he was part of one of our fastest's 4x800m relay times in school history this weekend. That Relay in theory should qualify for State with that time. A long way to go but our boys absolutely rocked that 4x800m on Saturday. Connor Ohlson and Austin Vancil are off to epic starts to the season. They most certainly will be spoken of a lot as we go so I will temper it here...but right now both have staked a claim in their events to make the state meet in May. Austin ran a gutsy 1600m in 4:24 and wining the event in Grand Junction... coming off his 4x800m leg. Impressive. Most Impressive. Ohlson has found a niche in the 800m with two of the best performances n school history with both his 4x800m leg and his 1:58.32 in the 800m nets him #3 All time in Dakota Ridge history. He will set his sights on that 800m now the rest of the year no doubt.

Upcoming....

We will have a big meet this Friday at Littleton Champs. We would love to put our best foot forward there so if you are in the meet, come ready to compete!! We will go up against Chatifeld and Columbine from our area and Arapahoe, Littleton and Heritage just to our east.

After this weekend we head North to the wonderful R2-J Meet in Loveland on April 12th...
